Now we’ve heard of people being arrested for being in bar fights but never for refusing to pay the bill because they’re famous!
Kwaito star Magesh is reportedly behind bars because of an argument that erupted over a bill for his drinks at a tavern.
According to Daily Sun, Magesh was arrested for refusing to pay R62 for two 330ml bottles of Savannah. The incident reportedly happened at Cubana Lounge in Bloemfontein on Monday evening.
According to the papers source Magesh attempted to leave the place without paying but was stopped by one of the waitresses.
“Magesh and his friend ordered two drinks. Then the waitress asked him to pay when she saw him trying to leave without settling his bill. The star then told her the drinks were expensive drinks. He said he had his own club in Joburg that didn’t charge that much.”
It’s said that the argument between Magesh and the staff members lasted over two hours with most of them pleading the singer to pay his bill before leaving.
The cops were then called to deal with the situation but Magesh was still not willing to pay the full amount of his bill. “When he saw the cops he changed his tune. He said he was famous and had money but then began to negotiate, to pay R40.”
The singer then caused a scene raising his voice at the cops saying he refuses to pay for the drinks because their prices are too high for him. Magesh believes that because he is famous he should be allowed to pay a lower price.
Police spokesperson Captain Chaka Marope confirmed the incident to the paper: “The artist and his friend were arrested and charged with theft after they allegedly failed to pay a bill of R62. They will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court today.”
Must be nice being a celebrity right? Refusing to pay a bill cause you’re famous…
