The best way to motivate the youth lately is to get someone who has been where they are and faced the same challenges that they struggle with.
The youth from KwaSwayimane in KZN received a special and rather meaningful treat for a youth month celebration when they spent the day with Generations: The Legacy actor, Ronnie Nyakale.
Daily Sun reports that the actor who plays Cosmo in the soapie, gave the community the chance to get to know him personally and not as his gangster character he plays on TV. KwaSwayimane has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately with a number of cases being reported where young boys are raping the elderly woman in the community.
The main aim of the Youth Day event was to get public figures to come motivate the young people, more especially the boys to do better in their community and in their school work. The event was hosted by the local pastor, Sphamandla Vidima, who had invited Ronnie Nyakale and Gagasi FM’s DJ Nomfundo Mzolo to speak to the community.
The young people were excited to see Cosmo but his main aim was to let them know how drugs affected his concentration at school and he warned them to stay away from whoonga, nyaope and other drugs that may shorten their lives.
“I remember in grade 9 I was top in my class but when I started using drugs and smoking in grade 10, my March report said I had failed! I was in boarding school and in June I had to tear up my school report because I was ashamed of what my parents would say to me. Stay away from drugs because they will turn you into nothing.”
Ronnie then gave them the opportunity to ask him anything they wanted to know about him. With the time he had spent with the community a number of the kids that attended the event said that they were motivated to do better for themselves because of Ronnie’s story.
It’s great to see that celebrities take the time out to get personal and motivate the youth with their own stories and life challenges.
