Professional chef and content creator Lebogang Tlokana, affectionately known as The Funny Chef, recently opened up about one of the most emotional moments of her pregnancy. In a heartfelt Instagram Story, she shared a deeply personal experience that left many of her followers both emotional and inspired.
Lebogang began by admitting how nerve-wracking her first pregnancy has been, saying,
“To be pregnant for the first time and not knowing what to do or how to do it is nerve-wracking. I know I make tons of jokes about how I’m going through changes, but I never really touch on the emotional part of it.”
Despite her cheerful online persona, the star revealed a terrifying moment she faced earlier in her pregnancy.
“A month or two ago… I found myself spotting and I started crying. I thought I did something wrong and I imagined the worst. I called my parents and they dropped whatever they were doing and came to pick me up and take me to the hospital.”
Lebogang described the car ride as a mix of fear and comfort, her parents trying to stay strong despite their worry.
“I was a kid again, sitting in the back seat, looking at my dad’s calmness even though he was like a duck, calm on the surface but paddling like the dickens underneath. My mom, on the other hand, you could see the fistful of tears.”
The emotional weight of the moment was intensified by her medical history.
“Growing up and always finding myself at the doctor, we were told that I couldn’t and wouldn’t have children. But ain’t God good?” she reflected.
Hearing her baby’s heartbeat at the hospital changed everything.
“When bad things happen to you quite often, it’s very difficult to have hope. But when we heard a little heartbeat through the ultrasound? We knew never to question God’s ways.”
Lebogang also took the moment to emphasise how important a support system is, especially during pregnancy.
“My siblings stayed with me for an entire week, without question or doubt. Which just begs the question, what of those who don’t have any support? I often hear about friends who never really check up on their pregnant friends. That’s quite saddening.”
She expressed her gratitude to her loved ones, including her best friend, DJ and radio host Lamiez Holworthy, for their unwavering support.
“My friends are soldiers… I never feel alone or out of place. I just matter, man. I matter to them. So please? Be there for your friends. It really takes a village.”
