Singer and reality TV star Kelly Khumalo recently sat down with L-Tido on his podcast, where she opened up about her childhood, relationships, motherhood, and the challenges of raising her children without much support from her baby daddies.
The award-winning musician revealed that she never finished high school and dropped out at a young age. Speaking honestly about her education, Kelly said:
“Briefly, for two years. I went to school only for two years and I dropped out. I dropped out because I was bored and I felt like they were wasting my time. I already knew what I wanted to be. I was in grade nine. I didn’t finish matric. I’m a dropout. I was bored, I’m a creative.”
Kelly went on to explain that her struggles with ADHD also played a role in her decision to leave school.
“It’s only now that I realise that it was not just boredom, when you have ADHD you get bored. I can’t be here for more than an hour. I’d lose my mind. I get bored easily,” she said.
When asked about love and relationships, Kelly shared what she looks for in a partner. She revealed that she wants someone who is financially stable, spiritually aligned, and emotionally healed, making it clear that she has outgrown relationships that drain her.
The singer also addressed pregnancy rumours that have been making rounds on social media. Dismissing the speculation, she firmly said:
“You don’t come to me with rumours because now you are forcing me to have a conversation and take this whole conversation into a rumour that you heard. The very person that gave you the rumour is the person that you should be having a conversation with. Every time I have a bloat I must come here and explain my womb to society. Don’t make it my business. I’m not here to clear rumours.”
Kelly then reflected on motherhood and how it has transformed her life. As a mother of three, she admitted that her children changed her entire outlook.
“It’s changed everything. It’s no longer about me anymore. I have to think about my children and I can’t make hasty decisions anymore. I have to think about my children and also understand that my life is no longer my life. Motherhood has changed me to a point of just understanding unconditional love and also understanding forgiveness, patience and tolerance.”
One of the biggest bombshells of the interview came when Kelly opened up about her baby daddies, accusing them of not supporting their children. However, she made it clear that the late Senzo Meyiwa was different.
“I have never received any support, even financially; they are all useless, well, except for one, Senzo Meyiwa, if he were here, trust me, he would’ve been hands-on and a responsible father. He was very hands-on, not even for my children, but even for his own children; the other two are very useless,” she said.
Despite the lack of support, Kelly said she will never take her children’s fathers to court for maintenance.
“I will not do that. Remind you on how to be a dad. Remind you that you have a seed at my house. Remind you that your child needs a roof and resources for education. I must remind you? You should know that,” she declared.
