Ntobeko Sishi, widely known for playing Ntokozo Dlamini on the hit Mzansi Magic drama Gomora, recently opened up about his emotional childhood and how it shaped the man he is today.
In a raw and revealing interview on The Insideshow podcast with host George Avakian, the actor and musician shared painful memories from his early years — including the loss of his mother and the heartbreaking rejection from his father.
“I lost my mom when I was six years old,” he shared during the podcast. “After that, I was with my dad and then he switched up and said you’re not my son, you have to go back. He put me on a flight at 10 years old. I got to the Durban airport, I didn’t know where to go.”
Ntobeko’s story is one of deep pain, but also of incredible strength. After being sent away by the only parent he had left, the young boy had to figure out how to survive without the love and guidance most children take for granted.
Despite the pain, Ntobeko never lost hope. Years later, he received a message that his father was critically ill. Even though their relationship had been broken for years, he still went to the hospital.
“He passed away five years ago. I got a DM, it said our dad is in the hospital. I went and I was there,” he said. “As angry as I was, I couldn’t say anything because the guy was in machines and stuff, so I just forgave him.”
The multi-talented star also spoke about the long-lasting effects of rejection and how he’s worked hard to rise above it.
“Rejection has been a huge part of my life and I let go of that part of my life. Not letting it have a negative impact on me has been challenging,” he admitted.
Ntobeko, who has also made waves in music with his EP and hit singles, is proof that painful beginnings don’t have to define your future. His story is a powerful reminder that healing is possible, and strength often comes from the darkest places.
