Award-winning South African actress Thuso Mbedu is set to appear in a brand-new HBO series called Task, which will premiere in South Africa on Showmax this September.
The first official image of Mbedu in her new role has just been released by HBO, creating major excitement among fans. The show comes from Brad Ingelsby, the creator of Mare of Easttown, which won four Emmy Awards and received wide praise. With such a strong team behind it, Task is expected to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year.
In the series, Thuso plays Sergeant Aleah Clinton, a dedicated officer who is part of a task force working to solve a series of violent robberies in a quiet suburb of Philadelphia. The crimes are deeply disturbing because they are being committed by someone who seems like an ordinary family man. The show promises to be full of suspense and emotional twists, keeping viewers glued to their screens.
Earlier in May, Thuso shared her excitement on Instagram, writing: “FIRST LOOK: TASK. From the creator of Mare of Easttown, the @HBO Original series Task is coming to @StreamOnMax this year. Can’t wait to share the on-set madness of making this beauty.”
Thuso Mbedu’s rise to global fame has been inspiring. She first gained attention in South Africa with her powerful performance as Winnie in Is’thunzi, which earned her two International Emmy nominations. From there, her career took off internationally. She was nominated for a Critics Choice Best Actress Award for her lead role in The Underground Railroad, and she won the Black Reel Breakthrough Actress Award for her part as Nawi in the hit movie The Woman King. She also did voice work for Mufasa: The Lion King and Castlevania: Nocturne.
Task has a star-studded cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Raúl Castillo, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Fabien Frankel, and Alison Oliver. With so much talent, the show promises to deliver strong performances and powerful storytelling.
Fans of crime thrillers and South African talent have something big to look forward to. Don’t miss Task when it arrives first on Showmax this September.
