South African pop sensation Tyla is getting ready to make history! She will host the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, becoming the first African pop star ever to take on the role. The fun-filled show will air live on Saturday, June 21 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
I’m really about to host the kids choice awards 💀🤍🙈
— Tyla (@Tyllaaaaaaa) May 15, 2025
Sharing her excitement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tyla wrote, “I’m really about to host the Kids’ Choice Awards.”
That simple post sparked joy from fans across the world, especially in South Africa. One fan, @VusiNtshanga, shared, “Good luck and congrats — you’re the perfect choice honestly.” Another fan, @onxxai, added, “Yesss u are. U deserve it and more, queen!”
Tyla’s big moment comes after an incredible rise in the global music scene. Earlier in 2024, she won her first Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance with her smash hit “Water,” which reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. She also received the Impact Award at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event. Now, hosting the Kids’ Choice Awards shows just how far her star has risen.
On top of hosting, Tyla is also nominated for Favorite Global Music Star and Favorite Music Collaboration for her track “Show Me Love,” a collab with WizTheMc and bees & honey.
This year’s Kids’ Choice Awards will celebrate fan-favourite stars from movies, TV, music, sports, and more. The show will air on Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons, Nick Jr., MTV2, CMT, and other Nickelodeon channels worldwide. South African fans can catch all the fun on DStv channel 305.
Expect a night packed with music, dancing, wild stunts, orange blimps, and of course, lots of slime! Musical performances will be announced soon.
And that’s not all! Tyla is also contributing to the soundtrack of the upcoming Smurfs movie, set to be released in theaters on July 18. The film also stars Rihanna, who just dropped a new song titled “Friend of Mine,” where she voices Smurfette.
Tyla’s star keeps shining brighter — and fans everywhere are cheering her on!
