Lasizwe Dambuza, the vibrant South African media personality, has opened up about a few famous faces he would love to go on a date with — on his hit show Awkward Dates.
Awkward Dates is a fun and unique dating show that Lasizwe created and hosts. It started on YouTube in August 2023, with new episodes dropping regularly. So far, the show has had 76 episodes, and its success has caught the attention of many. In October 2024, it was nominated for Best Online Content at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). Then, in April 2025, it made its TV debut on Mzansi Magic.
Now that the show has become a big hit, Lasizwe is dreaming even bigger. He posted, “Manifesting to go on an Awkward Date with them!” — and shared a list of celebs he would love to invite to the show.
First on his wish list is Bonang Matheba, also known as Queen B. The 37-year-old is a well-known TV and radio presenter, actress, and social media star. Bonang is famous for hosting Miss South Africa in 2018, 2019, and again in 2024. Lasizwe’s fans are already picturing how entertaining their episode could be!
Next, he wants a date with global music sensation Tyla. Tyla, known for her Grammy and BET wins, has taken the world by storm with hits like Water and Jump. Her music blends pop and amapiano, earning her the nickname “Queen of Popiano.” A date between Lasizwe and Tyla would definitely be a vibe!
Lasizwe also hopes to go on a date with Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa 2019 and Miss Universe 2019. Zozi made history by becoming the first Black South African woman to win Miss Universe. Her intelligence, beauty, and grace would make for a powerful episode.
Fourth on his list is Uncle Waffles, whose real name is Lungelihle Zwane. She’s a Swazi-born DJ and amapiano superstar who’s become famous not just for her music, but also her energetic dance moves. Billboard even called her the “princess of amapiano.” Her debut single Tanzania went 7× platinum — she’s a true icon.
Finally, Lasizwe hopes to have a date with award-winning actor Thembinkosi Mthembu. Known for powerful roles in Shaka iLembe, The River, and Kalushi, he recently won the SAFTA for Best Actor for his role as King Dingiswayo in Shaka iLembe. That series won 12 awards — the most in SAFTA history!
Whether or not these dream dates become reality, Lasizwe’s wish list has definitely got fans excited!
