Afro-soul singer and songwriter Berita has reached a major personal milestone—she’s officially a university graduate. The Jikizinto hitmaker recently took to social media to celebrate this inspiring achievement with her fans and followers.
Dressed in her graduation gown and beaming with pride, Berita shared beautiful photos and a heartfelt video from the special day, which appears to have taken place at the University of Pretoria. In the caption, she reflected on how much the journey has meant to her:
“The best decision I ever made was to look ahead. Celebrating this milestone with gratitude,” she wrote.
Berita’s comment section was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Actress Simphiwe Ngema sweetly said, “Congratulations, sisi,” while Bontle Modiselle added, “Congratulations beautiful.”
The singer’s academic success comes after a series of deeply personal life changes. In a past interview on The Hustler’s Corner with DJ Sbu, Berita’s ex-husband, Nota Baloyi, opened up about their failed marriage. Nota, visibly emotional, recalled his final moments with Berita before the split.
“For me, the one thing I did not want to do is give up. Whatever goes down, at least let’s go down fighting,” Nota said. “I gave her a hug and I wished her the best.”
Berita had already shown strength and self-awareness when she opened up about her healing journey on her 30th birthday. After signing the divorce papers, she shared a touching message that reflected on her growth.
“Today, my heart is filled with gratitude. I think about my journey thus far, and I’m grateful for the road I have travelled, the highs and lows, the trying times, the confusion, the naivety, the growth in self-awareness and ultimately, the acceptance of who I am. Thirty-three and free!” she wrote.
