The Miss South Africa Organisation has officially ended its partnership with Miss Supranational, confirming that it will no longer send a representative to the international pageant. This announcement comes just days after speculation swirled online, with many fans questioning whether the exit had something to do with newly crowned Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux.
In a clear and direct statement, Miss SA addressed the rumours: “The Miss South Africa Organisation has decided not to participate in the Miss Supranational 2025 competition and will not be renewing its license for the event. We note the fake news circulating and confirm that this decision was made solely by the Organisation and is not attributed to Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, nor the runner-up, Nompumelelo Maduna.”
The organisation also shared a message of appreciation, saying, “With heartfelt gratitude to our incredible fans, we share that Miss South Africa will not participate in the Miss Supranational 2025 competition, set for June in Poland. We deeply value the memories and connections of this event. We wish the Miss Supranational Organisation a spectacular event.”
This marks the third time in recent years that Miss South Africa has pulled out of a major international pageant. In 2022, they ended their partnership with Miss World. Then in 2023, Natasha Joubert withdrew from Miss Universe during the competition. Now, the split from Miss Supranational has stirred fresh frustration among pageant supporters.
One social media user expressed their disappointment, commenting: “You dropped Miss World, then withdrew from Miss Universe during the competition, now from Miss Supranational. Why do you have to crash dreams of ladies in pageantry?”
Despite the criticism, former representatives have spoken positively about their time on the international stage. Bryoni Govender, who stepped in for Joubert and made it to the Top 12 at Miss Supranational 2023, shared: “Forever grateful for the impact @official_misssa had on my supra journey.”
And who could forget Lalela Mswane’s historic win? The 2021 Miss South Africa went on to be crowned Miss Supranational 2021, giving the country a major win.
