World-renowned DJ and Grammy winner, Black Coffee, is set to open The Black Coffee Music Academy, a platform aimed at empowering and educating young musicians. Through his Black Coffee Foundation, the academy will offer a space for aspiring artists to learn and develop their skills in all aspects of music.
To kickstart the project, Black Coffee, whose real name is Nathi Maphumulo, will host a fundraising gala dinner on March 13 at the LUXX Venue in Sandhurst, Johannesburg. According to Daily Sun, the event will raise funds towards the academy’s development, with an initial target of R5 million for the year. The goal is to raise a total of R24 million, which will go towards location scouting, infrastructure, and curriculum development for the academy.
“The foundation aims to raise R5 million through the gala dinner, contributing towards a R24 million goal for the year. These funds will support early-stage development for The Black Coffee Music Academy, including location scouting, infrastructure planning, and curriculum development,” the statement read.
Lungile Maphumulo, the foundation’s CEO, expressed optimism about meeting the fundraising goal. “This academy will be a hub of artistic excellence, giving aspiring musicians and artists space to learn, grow, and thrive. Our goal of R24 million in 2025 might appear ambitious, but we believe through partnerships and collective effort, we can turn this vision into reality.”
Black Coffee and his foundation have a history of supporting communities in need, from providing relief during the 2022 KZN floods to launching a skills-building program for women in the Eastern Cape’s eTiphini.
The gala dinner is the first step in bringing this transformative vision to life, and Black Coffee invites individuals and brands to join in this monumental journey.
