If you’re a fan of South African celebrities, don’t miss the gripping fifth season of Behind The Story, now airing on SABC2. According to IOL, the popular talk show, which originally premiered on BET Africa (DStv Channel 129), has now been acquired by SABC2, making it available to a wider audience across South Africa.
Hosted by the award-winning radio and TV personality Nomalanga “The Flame” Shozi, Behind The Story offers a unique and personal look at some of the country’s most famous faces. Unlike other talk shows, this series digs deeper into the lives of local celebrities, sharing the stories behind the headlines. Viewers will be taken on a profound journey, where stars share their personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs, offering a glimpse into their true selves beyond the public persona.
The fifth season promises to celebrate these celebrities’ achievements while also providing them with an opportunity to address controversies surrounding their lives. Shozi, known for her dynamic hosting style, is excited to bring this series to a broader audience: “It’s incredibly exciting to bring Behind The Story to SABC2, a platform that connects with so many South Africans. As part of the SABC family, I’m thrilled to share this wonderful piece of work with the rest of South Africa and beyond,” she shared.
The line-up for this season includes some of Mzansi’s biggest stars, such as Norma Mngoma, Reason, Bongani Fassie, Da Les, Gugu Khathi, Zoe Modiga, Tebogo Lerole, Moshidi Motshegoa, Vusi Nova, Maleh, and Teko Modise. Each episode takes viewers on an adventure through Johannesburg, exploring iconic spots like Vilakazi Street and the Maboneng Precinct. These locations are filled with memories and significance for the guests, allowing them to share stories that shaped their careers and lives.
Shozi shared her excitement about the unique format of the show: “What’s even more exciting is going down memory lane and getting to visit the different places that symbolise different points in their journey as artists and stars. Getting to be at the helm of the show and bringing the viewer along for the ride makes it all so exciting!”
In addition to hosting Behind The Story, Shozi hinted at future projects both on-screen and off-screen. “On-screen, I’m currently shooting a show coming very soon to your local TV set, so please stay tuned. And off-screen, we’re cooking something very exciting for my personal audience that I can’t share yet, but I promise it’s nothing like I’ve put out before,” she teased.
Shozi’s passion for telling authentic South African stories is evident, and she loves returning to the show season after season. “I keep coming back because I absolutely love telling authentically South African stories,” she said.
As season five continues, viewers can expect more emotional, thought-provoking, and engaging stories that highlight the humanity behind the fame. Behind The Story airs on Thursdays at 8:30 PM on SABC2.
