Controversial traditional healer and media personality Gogo Maweni, whose real name is Makgotso Mofokeng, recently made a compassionate gesture toward pregnant women incarcerated at Suncity Prison. The renowned healer, also known for her appearances on the reality show Izangoma Zodumo, brought diapers, baby clothes, and baby food for the expectant mothers.
In an Instagram post, Gogo Maweni shared her heartfelt experience, saying, “I met incredible women with amazing stories…I will forever cherish them in my heart.” She also praised the wardens at the prison, noting, “I’d also like to take a moment to publicly recognize the wardens working in SunCity prison, for their exceptional work. Their dedication, love, and unwavering commitment to excellence truly shone through, exceeding all expectations and making a significant impact on the women.”
Her post, which was accompanied by a video, included the message, “For my pregnant mommy’s in Suncity. I love y’all,” showing her support for the women in a challenging situation.
This act of kindness comes amid Gogo Maweni’s legal troubles. According to City Press, the traditional healer was arrested on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in connection with an assault case dating back to 2019. She faces charges of assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) in relation to an alleged attack on her ex-boyfriend. The arrest followed a social media feud with fellow traditional healer Tumi “Gogo Skhotheni” Motsoeneng.
Gogo Maweni appeared in the Protea Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where her case was postponed to January 27, 2025, for a formal bail application. She was granted R5,000 bail by Magistrate Rozelle Khiye, and the state did not oppose her release.
