South African Grammy winner Tyla and Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina are making waves as two of the 100 Most Influential African Women of 2024. The annual list, curated by Ghanaian PR firm Avance Media, celebrates African women making significant strides across various fields, from entertainment to law.
Tyla, known for her genre-blending music and global success, is one of the standout names on this year’s list. The multi-award-winning artist recently released her debut album, TYLA, which solidified her as an international sensation. In 2024 alone, Tyla bagged multiple accolades, including the Best International Act award at the BET Awards in Los Angeles, the Global Force Award at the Billboard No. 1s event, and Best Afrobeats honours at the MTV Video Music Awards. She ended the year with sold-out concerts in South Africa, which were met with immense praise from fans.
In addition to her musical achievements, Tyla, the youngest African Grammy winner, also delivered a live performance for Showmax fans across 44 African countries in January 2025, showcasing hits from her chart-topping album TYLA, which has garnered over 1.6 billion streams worldwide.
Chidimma Adetshina, a rising star in the world of beauty pageants, also made the list. The Nigerian beauty queen made headlines in 2023 when she reached the Top 16 at the Miss South Africa pageant. After an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina triumphed, winning the title and later representing Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 competition in Mexico City. She emerged as the first runner-up and holds the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania 2024.
