Thembisa Mdoda opens up about losing her mom to pancreatic cancer. The actress describes it as the worst time of her life. The mom of two is opening up about how she grieved her mother for the first time publicly.
Thembisa revealed that doctors had failed to detect the cancer until two weeks before her mom passed away. The actress came to Johannesburg from Cape Town after receiving a call from her dad.
“When I saw my mom lying in hospital something inside me just died, I knew we were going to lose her. It was difficult for us because my mom was in and out of hospital while we were away trying to establish our careers,” she told Drum Magazine.
Thembisa says life didn’t seem to favor her after her mother passed away but things turned around in 2015. “I realize in hindsight that the day I decided to stop grieving was the day I became emotionally open to change and things started improving. The greatest thing my dad taught us was that we could survive anything as a unit.”
