Rapper, actor, and fresh MK Party member Mxolisi Majozi, known by his stage name Zuluboy, is taking legal action against Rhythm World Productions. According to ZiMoja, the dispute arose after Zuluboy was cast as the lead in “Umkhokha: The Curse,” only to see the role handed to Nkanyiso Mchunu at the eleventh hour.
According to an insider at the production, Zuluboy was the original choice for the lead role. “He was sent to work on the production for a week, lived on set, but did not work,” the insider revealed to ZiMoja. “He wasted five days reading scripts and practicing, only to find out later that Nkanyiso was given the part.” Zuluboy felt disrespected and deceived as he had signed a contract believing he had secured the role.
Despite attempts by Rhythm World Productions to make a counteroffer, Zuluboy opted to pursue legal action. “The company tried to counter offer but he took the legal direction as he was not happy with the offer,” the source added.
In a legal document seen by ZiMoja, Zuluboy’s legal team indicated that the next step, according to clause 28 of the Freelance Performer’s Agreement, is to approach the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa. Both parties are expected to state their cases in arbitration. The associated costs will be shared equally between them, and fees must be settled before scheduling the hearing.
As of now, Rhythm World Productions’ publicist Thanduxolo Jingela has not commented on the situation. Zuluboy, on his part, declined to comment, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
This high-stakes legal battle adds another twist to the entertainment industry, highlighting the often unseen struggles actors face behind the scenes. As the arbitration unfolds, all eyes will be on the outcome and its implications for future contractual disputes in the industry.
