Zikhona Sodlaka And Anele Mdoda Defend ‘MaXhosa Africa’ Clothing For Their Prices. Tweeps have taken to Twitter to complain about the retailer’s items being pricey, with actress Zikhona and media personality Anele defending their product prices.
MaXhosa Africa a brand founded by Laduma Ngxokolo in 2012, is one of the biggest clothing brands to come out of South Africa and has been worn by many SA celebrities including Lamiez Holworthy, Kuli Chana and Riky Rick. His brand made it to the London and New York Fashion Weeks, with singers Beyoncé and Alicia Keys having rocked some of his garments.
Laduma has said that as an African brand, finding his foot into the mainstream industry has been quite difficult. His brand has divided Twitter, with tweeps expressing their bemusement at the prices of some of his pieces. One tweep took to Twitter to ask if indeed a shirt would cost R8 800, with others chiming in a scoffing manner at the price. Others went on to add that his brand was not a well-known mainstream designer and so his prices were unjustifiable. Some defended the price point as nothing more than a smart business move for a black-owned brand.
Among people who hold the opinion that Laduma’s brand’s prices aren’t exorbitant are Zikhona Sodlaka and Anele Mdoda.
Zikhona responded to the critic saying, “We must also ask Gucci, LV, Prada etc then…. Maxhosa is is a luxury brand. Ayicace”. Anele Mdoda also went on to add her opinion that the brand was all a success because of Laduma’s hard work and as a result it had earned its “luxury” title, tweeting, “It’s priced that way because he created every single step. It’s luxury.”
