This past weekend was all about glitz, glamour, and the celebration of women in music as the Basadi in Music Awards returned for its fourth year. Known for honoring women who make a powerful impact in the music industry, the awards promise to be bigger, bolder, and even more meaningful this year.

The 2025 Basadi in Music Awards officially took place on 1 and 2 August 2025 at the iconic Joburg Theatre. The theme for this year was “The Symphony of Harmony,” which celebrates the power, diversity, and unity of women in South African music. It’s all about showing that women are not just part of the music scene—they are shaping it.

This weekend’s celebration saw some of the biggest names in music walk away with top honors. One of the night’s biggest winners was Zee Nxumalo, who took home the Sofnfree Africa Artist of the Year award for her hit song Ngisakuthanda. The organisers praised her by saying: “Celebrating the Mosadi who embodies excellence, creativity, and star power—an artist whose music, impact, and presence define what it means to shine effortlessly!”
