Grammy award-winning artist Zakes Bantwini has reached an exciting milestone, celebrating 100,000 followers on YouTube. The star, whose influence in the music industry has spanned over two decades, credits his success to the power of collaboration and staying open to fresh inspiration.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Zakes reflected on how working with younger artists has kept his creativity alive. “I’m the oldest in the studio, and I allowed myself to be a student again, to be inspired by young people and for me to inspire them,” he said. “I think that’s the evolution right there. That’s why after 20 years in the music industry, I’m still on top.”
Among his many achievements, Zakes Bantwini highlighted his music video for The Ghetto as a personal favourite. “It’s really my story, and it’s the first video I’ve directed. When I look at the comments and how it makes people feel when they see the video, I think that’s the highlight.”
Zakes Bantwini also expressed gratitude to his loyal YouTube subscribers for helping him reach this milestone, thanking industry figures at Universal Music SA and Mayonie Productions for their continued support. “I posted celebrating it. I didn’t think it was a big deal. I’m only realizing now it’s a big deal. I think I’ll celebrate the milestone by having dinner. I’m sure I’ll have a party to celebrate my YouTube channel,” he shared.
Now setting his sights on a new goal of 1 million subscribers, Zakes is excited about what’s to come. “There are so many ideas with my team we are going to be putting on my channel, specially pushing dance music. You’ll see more content and most of my interviews will be on my channel.”
With his passion for growth and innovation, Zakes Bantwini shows no signs of slowing down, even after 20 years of musical dominance.
