The official trailer for Youngins Season 2 is out, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the Showmax Original youth drama. Thabiso Ramotshela, who plays Mahlatse, sat down with Showmax to share his excitement for the new season, which starts airing on Fridays from 15 November 2024.

Thabiso is making a name for himself in this award-nominated series, and he opened up about his journey on the show, how it differs from his work on The River, and his character’s growth in Season 2.

“On The River, I was still learning, under the wings of so many experienced people,” Thabiso said. “I had the opportunity to work with actors like Presley Chweneyagae, Sindi Dlathu, and others. Then Youngins became the platform where I could finally apply everything I had learned over the years.”

When asked about the most rewarding part of being on Youngins, Thabiso said it’s about embracing youth and learning from mistakes. He added, “It also feels great to be part of something historic – I see this show as the Yizo Yizo of my generation.”

Reflecting on the love viewers have shown for his character Mahlatse, Thabiso admitted he was surprised. “The love I’ve received from viewers has been incredible. Mahlatse is so different from the typical nerds we’ve seen in high school. I feel like he’s misunderstood.”

His connection with co-star Lebogang Lephatsoana, who plays Tumelo, has also been a highlight. “We got along from the first day. I really like his energy and how he portrays his character. In fact, the term ‘mogweri’ that we use on the show was actually my idea for him to incorporate into his character.”

Without giving away too much, Thabiso described Mahlatse’s state of mind in Season 2 as “alone.” He said, “Even though he’s surrounded by people and doing what he usually does – saving others – he still feels isolated.”

The emotional toll of playing Mahlatse has been real for Thabiso, who shared, “I’ve learned to appreciate what I have. Mahlatse doesn’t know his dad, but I still have mine. I’ve learned to be more appreciative and humble.”

As fans gear up for Season 2, Thabiso promises that the new episodes will exceed expectations. “The fact that people went crazy for Season 1 makes me feel like they haven’t seen anything yet. We’ve put so much effort into bringing our characters to life. I truly believe we’ve created something special, and I’m excited for viewers to see young Africans telling their own story.”

Mark your calendars – Youngins Season 2 is set to captivate audiences once again, starting November 15!
