Substance abuse is the main reason for road accidents in our country.
Footballer and public figure Reneilwe Letsholonyane has come out to stress his concerns surrounding this issue.
Over the past weekend the football nation lost Maritzburg United striker Mondli Cele, in a car accident. Kaizer Chiefs star Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane shares that he’s seen enough of his fellow colleagues die on our roads.
Cele died on Sunday morning after playing a tremendous game against Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League which ended in a draw. SABC sports reporter Delisile Ngwenya also passed away in the accident.
Letsholonyane stresses that it’s important to ensure that all road users are safe on our roads.
“It is sad to lose one of us,” Yeye told Kaizer Chiefs’ website. “We are losing too many athletes in car accidents, which is a cause for concern. We must make safety on our roads a priority.” Of course, local councils are always working to make the roads safer. A lot of them are starting to use traffic cones to help control the flow of traffic and make it clear to the driver where they should be going. This prevents confusion, allowing the driver to focus on the road. To find out more about traffic cones, it might be worth visiting a website like seton.co.uk, for example.
Football stars Cecil Lolo and Richard Henyekane have also recently lost their lives in car accidents, which has led to many types of personal injury cases associated by both families impacted by the accident.
Even though Yeye is upset at the manner of the loss of his friend he shares that he is grateful for the time he’s spent with him.
“We got shocked and drew strength from the Almighty for granting us an opportunity to have shared the life and times with Cele, both on and off the field of play,” he added.
“He was a fine gentleman of sports. On behalf of the Chiefs players, I wish to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.”
