South African actress Winne Ntshaba has made a highly anticipated return to the set of Generations – The Legacy, stepping back into the role that helped establish her as a familiar face on South African television.
Ntshaba reprises her iconic role as Khethiwe Buthelezi, a character whose journey has remained memorable to viewers. Her return marks an emotional full-circle moment for the actress, who first joined Generations in 2005 at the age of 30. Now 51, Ntshaba is once again bringing Khethiwe to life, 21 years after she first appeared on the popular television drama.
Ntshaba’s return introduces audiences to a very different chapter in Khethiwe’s story. Once a reserved young woman from the village, Khethiwe gradually reinvented herself, rising through the ranks and building a glamorous life as a confident businesswoman and the face of La Chocolata.
However, the confidence she has gained over the years does not mean she is immune to heartbreak or manipulation. Khethiwe remains fiercely ambitious and determined to get back the life she feels belongs to her, even if achieving that goal means making difficult choices. At the same time, her emotional side leaves her exposed, particularly when it comes to relationships that may not have her best interests at heart.
The character’s return therefore promises to bring more than nostalgia. Khethiwe is coming back with history, ambition and unfinished business, giving longtime viewers an opportunity to reconnect with a character whose transformation was one of the memorable parts of her earlier journey.
Taking to Instagram ahead of her screen debut on September 1, 2026, Ntshaba reflected on the first time she worked on Generations as a 30-year-old actress, and now she returns as a 51-year-old.
“I was 30 years old in 2005 when I got a chance to be part of Generations; today I turned 51 after 21 years. I am back to say the line I said back in 2005….. Sawubona Bhut’Tau
“What a God ordained moment…. What a full circle moment. Not only am I celebrating 51yrs of life but tonight watch my return on @generations_the_legacy at 8:30pm.”
After more than two decades, Ntshaba is returning to the show that formed an important chapter of her acting career, this time with years of experience and an entirely different perspective.
According to IOL, in a press statement Ntshaba said, “Returning to ‘Generations’ is more than an honour; it feels like a full-circle moment. This is the show that introduced me to television and became the foundation of a career that has allowed me to step into many different worlds and portray an incredible range of characters.”
For fans who remember Khethiwe from her earlier days, Ntshaba’s return is a chance to see how much the character has changed — and perhaps how much she has not. The ambitious woman who once dared to dream beyond her circumstances is back, but this time, she faces a new chapter filled with vulnerability, manipulation and the determination to reclaim what she believes is hers.
