Watch! Khaya Mthethwa Reflects On His Divorce Alcohol Abuse And Depression. One thing that many of us are aware of is that celebrities are human just like us and they go through their own life struggles away from the spotlight. Gospel sensation and TV personality Khaya Mthethwa recently had a sit down with YFM drive time host Khutso Theledi, and gave listeners an intricate explanation of all the hardships he had to over come in his life.

Khaya reflected on how the challenges in his life have changed him for the better and have equipped him with the necessary tools to lead the current generation. The musician opened up about the how society made him feel unworthy because of his one and a half year marriage to former Miss South Africa Ntando Kunene. This not only lead to him developing depression and being inactive for most of last year.

During the interview, Khaya was very open about the lows he faced in his life, sharing how he had a stage where he used alcohol to get through the storm that was brewing in his life. He realized that he had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and took steps to sober up. He read stop drinking books, went to meetings, and avoided bars until he was confident he was stronger than his addiction. As if things weren’t hard enough, according to the Gospel Avenue host, he was also shamed for divorcing his wife even though he calls himself a Christian. This has however helped him to understand the struggles of the people that he prays.

“I am 34 divorced, been through alcohol, been through you know trying to numb the pain, I’ve struggled you know because you know how do you speak to your generation, if you haven’t been through what they are going through” Khaya said.

Mthethwa claims that he is now at a better place in his life and is ready to step up to the plate, and be the man that he wants to be for his 3 year old son and for the people who look up to him for guidance. follow the link below to watch the full video.
