South African music sensation Tyla is poised to make history at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), set to take place on December 12. The 22-year-old star has quickly risen to global stardom, with her self-titled debut album amassing over a billion streams on Spotify and her breakout hit “Water” reaching nearly 890 million streams.

Tyla isn’t just performing at the prestigious event; she’s also competing in eight categories, tying with music legends like Drake and Kendrick Lamar for the third-highest nominations this year. Her nominations span across multiple categories, including Top R&B Artist and Top Afrobeats Artist.

Her hits, “Water,” “Truth or Dare,” and “Jump,” have all been recognised in the Top Afrobeats Song category, showcasing her skill in blending both R&B and amapiano-inspired sounds. This marks a major milestone in Tyla’s career as she continues to dominate both local and international music charts.

“Water” has already made waves globally, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January, and securing the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance in February. Her debut album Tyla reached No. 24 on the Billboard 200 in April.

Tyla’s impressive list of nominations includes:

   •     Top R&B Artist

   •     Top R&B Female Artist

   •     Top Afrobeats Artist

   •     Top R&B Album (Tyla)

   •     Top R&B Song

   •     Top Afrobeats Song (Water, Truth or Dare, and Jump featuring Gunna and Skillibeng)

The 2024 BBMAs, which will air live from Los Angeles, promises to be an unforgettable night for Tyla and her fans.
