South African sensation Tyla recently gave her fans a laugh when she pranked her mother during an interview with Elle magazine. As the October cover star, the “Water” hitmaker took part in a fun segment where she had to make a shocking phone call.

The 22-year-old was tasked with breaking the news of a fake pregnancy to her mother, but things didn’t go as expected. Tyla kicked off the conversation with, “Hello ma, are you able to go somewhere else and don’t tell daddy.” Then she dropped the bomb: “Ma, um, I think I’m pregnant.”

To her surprise, her mom didn’t respond with anger or disbelief. Instead, she revealed she had been expecting the news: “Ah yeah, I’m happy. I had a feeling for a long time. That’s what I’m seriously shocked about. Oh my God. I swear to God. God, I had a premonition. I swear to God, just yesterday.”

Clearly caught off-guard by her mom’s calm reaction, Tyla decided to up the stakes. “Ma, I don’t know who the father is,” she added. At this point, her mother’s tone shifted: “Why, what happened? Talk to me. Tyla, are you joking with me?”

By now, Tyla was giggling uncontrollably and had to confess it was all a prank. “It’s a prank for Elle magazine, ma,” she admitted.

But her mother wasn’t done. She continued to talk about her premonitions, saying, “I spoke to Aunty Mila and I said to her that I need grandchildren… Oh my God.”

The prank quickly went viral, with fans and celebrities flooding the comments in laughter. Bontle Modiselle-Moloi chimed in with, “Ma’s point is: the premonition happened okay!” while DJ Zinhle added, “Mom wants a baby.”

Even American rapper JT got in on the fun, commenting, “Now you have to give her grand baby omg,” to which Tyla cheekily responded, “Girl, not anytime soon.”

One fan, @agnessitta, praised the bond between Tyla and her mom, writing, “Loved how her momma said ‘talk to me,’ what a safe space.”

This light-hearted prank not only showcased Tyla’s playful side but also gave fans a glimpse into the loving and supportive relationship she shares with her mom.
