Grammy-winning sensation Tyla has secured five nominations for the 30th annual South African Music Awards (Samas), emerging as the most nominated artist this year.

According to SMag, the nominations were announced this morning at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, with Metro FM’s Luthando “LootLove” Shosha hosting the event. The prestigious awards ceremony is set to take place in November.

Tyla, known for her chart-topping hit Jump, has been nominated in major categories, including Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Best Pop Album. She’s also in the running for Best Collaboration for the Water remix featuring Travis Scott, adding to the excitement surrounding her incredible achievements.

Hot on Tyla’s heels, Amapiano king Kabza De Small and vocalist Mbuso Khoza each garnered three nominations, tying for second place.

Nhlanhla Sibisi, CEO of the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), shared his enthusiasm for this year’s nominees: “We are thrilled to congratulate the nominees for SAMA30. This year’s selection showcases the incredible diversity, talent, and creativity in South African music, which is aligned with the ethos of the Samas. We are excited to celebrate these outstanding achievements at the upcoming awards ceremony.”

He continued, “I am truly humbled by the exceptional talent and dedication behind the music that has earned nominations this year. To each nominee, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations. Your music has touched lives, sparked movements, and brought joy to millions. We honour not only your artistry but the passion and perseverance that drive you to push the boundaries of South African music.”

Other notable nominations include Best Amapiano Album, with Mellow & Sleazy, Daliwonga, and Kelvin Momo competing, and Best Hip Hop Album, where FLVME, Nasty C, Priddy Ugly, and The Big Hash are in contention.
