Tweeps Debate Whether Leaving Muvhango Was Good For Sindi Dlathu’s Career. The actress known for her extraordinary, of well over a decade-long role as Thandaza Mukwevho in SABC 2’s drama series Muvhango has in past couple of years won fans hearts as Linidiwe Dikana on award winning telenovela ‘The River’.
Dlathu’s portrayal as the stubborn and fierce Thandaza Mukwevho on Muvhango made her a household name and cemented her as one of TV’s small screen darlings, and gained her major respect as an actress in the entertainment industry. The Thandaza character became more than just a TV character but also part of the show’s fans’ lives, as she was referred to as Thandaza on and off screen.
Dlathu portrayed the role of Thandaza for a fully fledged twenty years. In those two decades, Dlathu only focused on Muvhango and did not work on any other projects. Upon leaving Muvhango in 2017, Sindi was quoted saying, “Muvhango has been more than a job to me, it has been my life for 20 years and I’ve loved and cherished every single moment of playing Thandaza. After 20 years I’ve decided to give the Thandaza character a break in order for me to grow as an artist, venture out to explore new opportunities and discover what can do as an actress and as a human being.”
Six years after her departure from the soapie and being the leading lady of the hit telenovela ‘The River’ which is now coming to an end, tweeps have been debating on whether leaving Muvhango was a good move for the actress, replying to a tweet that read, “Leaving Muvhango was the best decision she made. I want to see her on a new big show. As the lead actress!. She deserves it.” Many tweeps shared their opinions on whether they thought it was a good or bad move.
One tweep said that Sindi delivered some of the best powerful performances whilst she starred in Muvhango, with another saying that her long reign as Thandaza had crippled her because many people didn’t know her outside of the Thandaza role.
Another tweep further went on to state that Muvhango was hindering her growth as an actress, because watching her portray the role of Lindiwe Dikana—a mining boss was tantalising and refreshing. Others went on to add that producers had a habit of prolonging her characters and that their wish is to see her on the international stage with Hollywood names like Viola Davis. Following the announcement that ‘The River’ is coming to an end, Sindi is on to bigger things, as she is set to star in a new adaptation of ‘King Shaka’ series, alongside Tony Kgoroge, Thapelo Mokoena and more.
