The third season of the Uthando Nes’thembu spin-off, Izingane Zes’thembu, returned to screens on May 25 — and it’s already promising drama, surprises, and heartfelt moments from the next generation of the Mseleku family. The new season brings back familiar faces, including Mpumelelo Mseleku and his partner Tirelo Kale, along with his siblings Sne, Mpilo, Lwandle, and Abongwe.
In an exclusive Q&A with The Citizen, the young couple opened up about what fans can expect this time around, their parenting journey, and even addressed those juicy engagement rumours — though Mpumelelo remained tight-lipped on a few topics.
When asked what viewers can look forward to in Season 3, Tirelo responded with a playful but telling answer: “They can expect growth — and a little bit of betrayal [laughs]. As we grow, we’re also discovering new things about each other.” Mpumelelo added, “Viewers can expect good things from us, even though we’ll go through some challenges.”
Tirelo, who joined the show while pregnant in Season 1, shared that she’s now more comfortable in front of the camera and embracing her journey. “The first season was a bit overwhelming because I was pregnant. But now, I’m much more comfortable. We’re able to be ourselves, and there’s growth in that. I’m still trying to figure out the relationship with the siblings, even though it’s not always easy.”
For Mpumelelo, this season marks significant personal growth. “I’ve grown a lot personally, and the bond between my partner and I has also become stronger,” he said.
Parenthood has also played a big role in the couple’s story. Tirelo opened up about the highs and lows of being a young mom. “Motherhood is beautiful but challenging. I’m grateful for the support system I have — Mpumelelo’s mum and my family have both been there. So I’d say I’m managing well, apart from the small fights with Mpumelelo [laughs].”
And how is Mpumelelo doing as a father? Tirelo didn’t give a straightforward answer. “Yoh! Mpumelelo as a father? I honestly don’t know — I’d rather not speak for him. I guess viewers will see for themselves on the show.”
With engagement rumours swirling around the pair, fans are eager to know if wedding bells are near. Tirelo kept the mystery alive: “On that one, I’d say viewers should stay tuned to Mzansi Magic. I don’t want to spoil anything — maybe we’ll all find out together.”
As for where she sees their relationship in five years, her answer was unexpectedly honest: “I don’t know. There’s a lot of ngena phuma (coming and going). Maybe I’ll just go.”
