Thuli Phongolo’s Detailed Police Statement Following Alleged Assault By Boyfriend DJ Maphorisa. Actress and DJ, Thuli Phongolo was reportedly a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her boyfriend DJ Maprisa over the weekend.
According to reports, Thuli and Maphorisa had had an argument at one of his gig. The argument allegedly carried on at Thuli’s apartment in Sandton on Sunday where he then reportedly assaulted her physically. Phongolo opened a case against Maphorisa who has since been in jail.
Thuli’s police statement on what happened according to reports reads as follows: “On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig. He held me, took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck. He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest.“
The 29 year old reportedly also stated that he had allegedly taken her phone and kept hitting her with his elbow on the balcony as they wrestled for her phone. According to City Press, the police officers who saw her said Phongolo sustained serious bruises on her neck.
DJ Maphorisa is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of assault.
