This Is Why The Palestine Solidarity Alliance Is Not Happy With Miss SA Lalela Mswane. Newly crowned Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane is already faced with challenges in the beginning of her reign due to politics. The ballerina has become a topic of discussion on twitter following the announcement of her participation in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
The media has been reporting over the Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and communities inside Israel protesting Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip and the evictions of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah. This has resulted in the loss of many lives as Palestinians have tried to escape the terror.
Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane has now been dragged into the mess following her confirmed participation at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant that will be held in Israel. The Palestine Solidarity Alliance took to their Instagram account boycotting the Miss South Africa organization and Mswane, accusing them of supporting the killing of innocent Palestinians.
The account claims that Mswane failed to practise what she preached following her vow to fight for human rights and world peace. The alliance has highlighted how the idea of “world peace” would be unachievable if platforms such as Miss Universe associate with apartheid countries that strive on war crimes, killing of innocent children, illegal land invasions and the latter.
According to TshisaLive the alliance claims that Mswane is clearly all about “self gain” as they have tried to engage with her over the plight of Palestinian’s however, she allegedly blocked the activist on all social media platforms.
“after weeks of trying to engage with Mswane, with regards to the plight of the Palestinian people, she has decided to to block” both bodies” The alliance claimed.
Social media users have since weighed in on the scrutiny faced by Mswane which they think is misdirected. According to tweeps, this was a poor move on the Miss SA organization’s part and Lalela is not at fault. According to social media, the platform was supposed to show solidarity with Palestinian’s by boycotting the pageant like other countries did.
The Miss SA Organization has responded to the outcry and has told TimesLIVE they are not getting involved in a political war of words and are looking forward to watching Miss SA make the country proud on an international stage.
