Beloved South African actress, singer, and media personality Thembi Seete has officially stepped into the world of fashion with the launch of her debut clothing line, Mapule Collection. The collection is a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Rebecca Seete, whose talent, creativity, and grace continue to inspire Thembi to this day.
In an exclusive chat with TRUELOVE, Thembi opened up about what inspired her to start Mapule Collection and what the name truly means to her.
“The inspiration behind Mapule Collection comes from my mother, Rebecca Seete,” she explained. “She was a talented fashion designer who learned to sew, design, and create from a very young age. Her effortless sense of style and impeccable eye for detail allowed her to craft timeless pieces that still amaze me today. Even without social media or global fashion trends, she could create something extraordinary. She designed for queens, kings, weddings, and individual clients, and her work carried a spirit of excellence and authenticity that continues to inspire me.”
The name of her brand, Mapule, carries deep personal meaning for Thembi. “My full name is Thembisile Mapule Mnisi. Seete is my stepfather’s surname, which I proudly carry because he raised me. When I was born, it was raining, and my grandparents decided to name me Mapule. My clan name is Mvuleni Mnisi we Mvula, which means rain — a symbol of blessings, renewal, and grace. I’ve always loved rain for its calm, power, and the way it gives life. So, naming my brand Mapule Collection felt like honouring both my roots and my mother’s legacy.”
For Thembi, fashion has always been part of her identity. “Even during my Boom Shaka days, fashion played a huge role in how we told our story — fearless, creative, and unapologetic. Mapule Collection is an extension of that same energy, but with more depth and meaning. It represents where I come from, who I’ve become, and the woman I continue to evolve into.”
Thembi revealed that Mapule Collection is an independent brand under her company, Thembi Seete Concepts. “It took time to bring this dream to life because I didn’t want to rush the process. I wanted each piece to represent me and tell a story, not just follow a trend,” she said.
She also spoke about the challenge of finding the right tailor: “I needed someone who understood my vision, respected the craft, and shared my passion for detail and perfection. Now, I have a small, committed team that helps turn my ideas into garments that feel authentic and timeless.”
Describing the brand’s style, Thembi said, “Mapule Collection is fun, bold, and timeless, inspired by music, movement, and my journey in entertainment and motherhood. Each design reflects strength, femininity, and elegance in motion.”
She added that she’s very hands-on in the creative process: “I come up with the designs, select fabrics, and refine every detail with my tailor. I believe a garment should be as beautiful inside as it is outside. Every stitch and seam tells a story of care, pride, and passion.”
Mapule Collection will be available through the brand’s online store and Instagram page (@mapule.collection). “We specialise in everyday wear, timeless classics, and tailor-made designs, from chic separates to elegant evening gowns and tailored suits,” Thembi shared.
