Akhonamathemba Zwane, better known as Sweet Guluva, is still enjoying the spotlight after winning season five of Big Brother Mzansi. The 23-year-old star, loved by many across South Africa, is staying grounded through it all — giving credit to his family and faith in God.
“I’m also accepting the fact that I’m a Godly person,” he shared in an interview with TRUELOVE magazine. Despite all the attention and new opportunities, Sweet Guluva remains humble, saying his family has helped him stay focused and strong.
He explained how his loved ones have played an important role in his journey. “In life, they’ve been there before, so most of the situations they know better than I do. So maybe, with [handling money], they know vele… ’This is how you handle this, this is how you stay humble, this is what you do.’ So, you need your family just to be also grounded and also just reconnect.”
Since winning the show, Sweet Guluva has been busy. He has MC’d big events like the Durban Music Festival, joined the All Gold Youth Empowerment School Tour in Nquthu to inspire learners, and even showed off his soccer skills with Dove Men through the Broscape Championship. Despite the fame, he hasn’t forgotten where he comes from.
Although many see him as a role model, especially in his hometown, Sweet Guluva doesn’t see it as a heavy responsibility. “People follow what they feel is genuine and real. That’s what truly connects,” he said.
But life hasn’t been all smooth. At the start of May 2025, Sweet Guluva shared heartbreaking news — the loss of his sister, Lwazi Zwane. He said their bond was “very tight” and although it’s a painful time, he asked for privacy. He also remained private about his close relationship with former housemate Ashley Ogle, saying only, “It’s very tight now.”
As for future plans, he’s keeping things under wraps for now. “All will be shared on social media if there’s anything, but for now we’re still trying,” he said.
