The cast and crew of Loved Out lit up Sandton on Thursday night, 18 September, as they gathered for the highly anticipated premiere of the romantic drama at Ster-Kinekor. With the red carpet rolled out, the glamorous event drew stars, media personalities, and industry insiders who were eager to witness the film’s official big-screen debut.
The evening was filled with excitement and pride as the cast shared their thoughts with Daily Sun, speaking about what it meant for their work to be seen by the public. Lead actress Bahumi Mhlongo, who plays the central role of Ruva, expressed her joy and relief.
“What I’ve seen is really good. I’m not nervous about the movie itself, just the red carpet. But you are chilled, so everything is great,” she said with a smile.
For Bahumi, the film wasn’t just a professional milestone but also a personal journey of growth. She explained, “I learned that vulnerability is key, especially in this line of work. As a person, sometimes you can be afraid to be yourself, but that holds you back and restricts you from believing in your queenly being. The more vulnerable you are, the more you are able to release and truly be who you were meant to be.”
Fellow actor Simphiwe Jack Mabazo was equally thrilled. Attending his very first movie premiere since becoming an actor, he shared his excitement: “I’m really looking forward to everything.” Playing a gangster in the film, Mabazo even dressed the part for the red carpet. “It’s an exciting one and I’m even wearing a chain tonight to represent my character,” he revealed.
At the heart of Loved Out is the story of Ruva, a 27-year-old culinary dreamer who is running her family restaurant while juggling a polished social media presence. But her seemingly perfect world begins to crack under pressure — one bad review could destroy her carefully built image. Alongside her fiery mother Gloria, played by the iconic Khabonina Qubeka, Ruva faces challenges that push her into unexpected battles involving gangsters, old rivals, and a million-rand cooking competition.
With its mix of romance, family drama, suspense, and vibrant Johannesburg flavour, Loved Out promises audiences a thrilling ride, and judging by the premiere’s buzz, this film is set to be a hit.
