The Africa Choice Awards (ACAs) are officially making their grand return in 2026, and this time, they’re coming to South Africa. The upcoming 7th edition promises to be a powerful celebration of African excellence, creativity, and culture under the fitting theme, “The Culture Reigns.”
Recognised as one of the most prestigious award events on the continent, the Africa Choice Awards honour individuals who have made an impact in the entertainment, fashion, and creative industries. What makes the show unique is that the winners are decided by the people — fans from across Africa who vote online for their favourite stars. Voting officially opens on 13 October 2025, and anticipation is already building as Mzansi’s finest talent earns major nominations.
In the Female Movie Star of the Year category, actress Nomzamo Mbatha leads the charge. Known for her standout performance in Coming 2 America and her powerful roles in Shaka Ilembe and Tell Me Sweet Something, Nomzamo continues to represent South Africa with grace and strength. She is joined by Dawn Thandeka King, widely loved for her roles in hit shows such as Uzalo, DiepCity, and Shaka iLembe, where she showcases her commanding presence on screen.
Another strong contender is Gail Mabalane, who captured hearts with her emotional performances in Unseen and Blood & Water, proving she’s one of the most versatile actresses in the country. Internationally acclaimed actress Thuso Mbedu also earns her nomination thanks to her award-winning performances in The Underground Railroad and The Woman King, solidifying her status as a global star.
In the Reality TV Star of the Year category, South Africa’s most loved personalities are taking the spotlight. Among them is JoJo Robinson, one of the standout cast members from The Real Housewives of Durban, known for her honesty, humour, and glamour. She’s joined by fellow Real Housewives of Durban star Sorisha Naidoo, who continues to win fans with her calm and sophisticated presence on-screen. Other South African nominees in the category include Sweet Guluva and Vuyisa Nyauza..
In the Social Star of the Year category, South Africa’s digital creators are dominating. Content creator Mihlali Ndamase, dancer and choreographer Bontle Modiselle, and Youbter and content creator Lasizwe Dambuza lead the pack with their massive online influence. TikTok star Chad Jones, former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, and rising creator Oratle Masedi are also nominated for using their platforms to inspire, entertain, and unite fans across the continent.
The Female Brand Influencer of the Year category highlights South Africa’s leading trendsetters and content creators, including Ashley Ogle, Grace Mondlana, Mshini Lekwadu, Snikiwe Mhlongo, and Lethabo Mekoa, all recognised for their creativity and influence in fashion and lifestyle.
