TV actress and Real Housewives of Durban star Sorisha Naidoo recently celebrated a milestone birthday for her mother, who turned 80. The emotional celebration was shared with her followers on social media, where Sorisha posted pictures of the family gathering, all dressed in beautiful cultural attire. The pictures showed heartfelt moments with her mother, close family members, and stunning details of the celebration, including food, décor, and a gorgeous light pink birthday cake adorned with a pink bow.
Sorisha took the opportunity to reflect on her mother’s strength, sharing a touching message alongside the photos. “For many of you who are looking at these pics, my mum turned 80. She has had cancer for going on a decade, she is a survivor,” Sorisha wrote. She also mentioned her father’s health struggles, revealing that he was diagnosed with glaucoma. “My dad was also diagnosed with glaucoma, they are inseparable and the cutest couple,” she added.
The celebration featured a special Ram Bhajan, something Sorisha and her sister had been wanting to organise for a long time. “My sister and I have been talking about a Ram Bhajan for so long, and my mum’s 80th was a now or never. Our grandfather was one of the first individuals to start the Venkateswara Ram Bhajan Society,” Sorisha explained. Although the original group wasn’t available, they were able to arrange an amazing performance from the Shakti Boys, a group from Verulam.
It was also a bittersweet day, as the family took time to remember lost loved ones. “We have lost two brothers, and we were reminiscing and recalling all the memories of eras gone by,” she shared. Despite the emotions, it was a significant day for the family, honouring their roots in the small Telugu community of South Africa.
Followers flooded Sorisha’s social media with birthday wishes for her mother. Her co-star, Slee Ndlovu, sent a heartfelt message, and another follower expressed admiration for Sorisha’s devotion to caring for her parents, saying, “I have the greatest respect and love for you for looking after your parents… you are such an incredible woman.”
