In a surprising twist, beloved actress Slindile Nodangala will not be returning for Season 2 of the popular telenovela “Sbongile & the Dlaminis,” airing on Mzansi Wethu. According to an exclusive report by ZiMoja, the talented actress has parted ways with the production due to a unique disagreement over the name of one of the characters.
Insiders reveal that the rift began when Nodangala requested the producers to change the name of a character because it matched that of her priest. Initially, the production team dismissed her request, thinking it was made in joke. However, Nodangala’s persistence soon made it clear that she was serious. She explained that sharing scenes with a character bearing her priest’s name felt disrespectful, making her uncomfortable and affecting her performance.
A source close to the situation told ZiMoja, “She wanted to honor her priest by not using the name. It was a matter of respect and faith for her, something she couldn’t compromise for the sake of the show.” The source added that Nodangala struggled to even pronounce the character’s name during scenes, as it felt like a personal affront to her religious beliefs
“Surely the congregation knows she is an actress and that it was merely a coincidence that a character shares a name with her priest. I suspect she was called out at church. Some people take acting very seriously and forget that it’s just for entertainment,” the source added.
Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment at Mzansi Magic, confirmed Nodangala’s departure but cited a different reason. “Slindile’s portrayal of Deliwe Mbambo was both captivating and divisive, making her a standout character. Her talent has shone brightly on this show and others across Mzansi. The story is evolving, and new characters are joining the cast,” Adonisi stated. Despite the official explanation, the backstage drama hints at deeper tensions.
As “Sbongile & the Dlaminis” prepares for its second season, the show must navigate this unexpected change, while Nodangala embarks on a new chapter in her illustrious career.
