  1. Born on June 16, 1991, in Qheberha’s Zwide township in the Eastern Cape, Siya Kolisi’s childhood was marked by poverty. He once shared in an interview with Rugby World that a simple brick was his favorite toy.
  2. Tragedy struck at a young age when both of Siya’s parents passed away, leaving him in the care of his grandmother.
  3. Siya’s passion for rugby ignited at the tender age of seven, a common love among South African boys.
  4. His talent as a junior player for the African Bombers club led to a full scholarship to Grey College, a renowned institution known for producing Springbok players.
  5. At Grey College, Siya’s closest friend and best man at his wedding, Nicholas Holton, played a crucial role in helping him master the English language when he first arrived at the school.

Rising Through the Ranks

  1. Western Province recognized Siya’s potential straight out of high school, and he made his professional debut for the union in a 2011 Vodacom Cup match against the Lions.
  2. Siya Kolisi earned his first Test cap in a match against Scotland in Nelspruit in 2013. Proudly donning the Springbok jersey as the 851st player in their history.
  3. On June 17, 2017, a day after his 26th birthday. Siya Kolisi made a memorable mark by scoring his first try for South Africa against France in Durban. His remarkable interception and sprint to the try line contributed to a 37-15 victory for the Springboks.
  4. Siya’s leadership extended to captaining the South African national team. Making him the third Springbok captain to hoist the Rugby World Cup. Following in the footsteps of legends like Francois Pienaar and John Smit.

The Family Man

  1. Siya Kolisi’s personal life is just as inspiring. He is happily married to Rachel Kolisi, and the couple is blessed with two children, Nicholas and Keziah. Moreover, they have opened their hearts to care for Siya’s younger half-siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, whom he has officially adopted.
