South African actress Sivenathi Mabuya is using her voice to shed light on mental health this World Mental Health Day (10 October 2025). Known for her strength and honesty, the actress took to social media to open up about her personal journey, reminding her followers that mental health struggles can affect anyone — no matter how strong they appear.
World Mental Health Day is celebrated globally to raise awareness and make mental health a priority for all. It also calls for more investment in mental health support and treatment. This year, Sivenathi’s heartfelt message resonated deeply with fans as she shared her own reflections and encouraged others to seek help when needed.
“World Mental Health Day has a whole new meaning for me today. Looking back at the incredible journey I was on, I wanted to take a page out of my journal and share it with YOU,” she wrote.
In her emotional post, Sivenathi spoke candidly about how easy it is to overlook the “downward spiral” of one’s mental state.
“We talk about the good, the bad, the probabilities, the ups, the lows, but never really the downward spiral of your mental state. As a headstrong person, I never imagined it could happen to me, but the truth is it can happen to anyone,” she shared.
The actress explained that mental health struggles can arise for the smallest and most unexpected reasons, from feeling anxious about leaving the house for the first time to struggling with body changes after childbirth.
“It can be the smallest, most silliest reason with the most crippling effect. It happens, it’s a real thing,” she said.
Sivenathi went on to express gratitude for her strong support system. “Thankfully I didn’t have to do it all on my own… I have the most incredible support system in my family and friends. However, I realise not everyone is as lucky. Today I hope you seek help. I hope you feel seen and heard because you’re definitely not the only one.”
Her message of compassion and empathy touched many hearts.
“Respect to you for having gone through all that on your own and getting this far. I hope we continue to foster empathy and compassion for those affected. Let’s talk more about these topics because chances are someone else out there is going through the exact same thing.”
Earlier this month, the actress also shared joyful news with her fans — she recently gave birth to her first child. Sivenathi posted a series of beautiful moments from September 2025, showing her baby bump, thoughtful gifts, and a touching photo of her newborn’s tiny hand wrapped around her finger.
“September 2025… the toughest and most rewarding month of my life,” she captioned the post, adding a blue heart emoji — hinting that she welcomed a baby boy.
