Get ready for the highly anticipated return of Unfollowed, one of Showmax’s top 10 most-watched local shows last year. Premiering on Wednesday, 27 November 2024, Season 2 promises even more gripping stories and unfiltered insights into the world of cancel culture.

Now hosted by popular broadcaster Spitch Nzawumbi, Unfollowed delves into how cancel culture impacts South Africa’s biggest celebrities, tackling the controversies and public backlash that have shaken their lives. Each episode highlights a different public figure, diving deep into the scandals that have defined their careers and exploring the struggles and lessons they’ve faced.

In the season premiere, Unfollowed kicks off with reality star and entrepreneur Mel Viljoen. Known for her role in The Real Housewives of Pretoria, Mel rose to fame through her successful business, Tammy Taylor Nails. But her journey hasn’t been smooth – she faced serious accusations and legal challenges tied to her business. This episode examines the controversy, Mel’s responses, and the lasting effects on her career and personal life.

Reported by Showmax, the new season promises more riveting stories, each focused on a different personality. South African icons like radio presenter Ngizwe Mchunu, musician Bongani Fassie (Brenda Fassie’s son), traditional healer and DJ Gogo Skhothane, hip-hop artist Pitch Black Afro, media personality Bujy Bikwa, radio legend Linda Sibiya, and even Pastor Mboro will open up about their experiences with cancel culture. They’ll share personal accounts of how their reputations were damaged and careers left hanging in the balance.

Adding depth to each episode, Unfollowed also features insights from journalists, activists, and legal experts, giving viewers a rounded perspective on each story.

Produced by GOAT, who won acclaim for Life With Kelly Khumalo and The National Film and TV Awards for Best Reality Series, Unfollowed promises to deliver a raw, unfiltered look at the powerful and often destructive force of cancel culture. “Unfollowed Season 2 will offer viewers deeper, more nuanced conversations that challenge you to look beyond the surface and consider the complexities of cancel culture and the power of social media in shaping lives and careers,” says executive producer Graeme Swanepoel. “Unfollowed pulls no punches in its portrayal of cancel culture – it offers an unflinching, raw look at the reality of the phenomenon and its victims, with no sugar-coating or glossing over the harsh truths.”
