Singer-songwriter Shekhinah made Women’s Day extra special this year by hosting her annual music festival, Rosefest. The event was all about creating a safe and joyful space for women to come together, celebrate each other, and enjoy good music in an uplifting atmosphere.
Rosefest first began in 2019 as Shekhinah’s way of celebrating women’s empowerment through music. Since then, it has grown into an anticipated all-female music festival. This year’s celebration took place at the scenic Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Roodepoort, providing a beautiful natural backdrop for the festivities.
The festival wasn’t just about music—it was a space filled with love, connection, and fun. Women celebrated their femininity through song, dance, fashion, and shared moments. There were also plenty of free activities to enjoy, including face painting, a photo booth with instant printouts, and a charming rose garden made from crinkled paper. One of the most popular attractions was the sip and paint activity, where attendees could get creative while relaxing with friends. The paper rose garden gave the setup an extra magical touch, and fans couldn’t help but notice how it reminded them of Shekhinah’s second album, Trouble in Paradise.
Adding to the excitement, Shekhinah released her third studio album, Less Trouble, just one day before the festival. This made the event feel even more special for her fans, who were eager to celebrate both her music and the spirit of Women’s Day.
The stage was alive with diverse performances to match the tastes of the crowd. From amapiano and jazz to house, hip hop, and R&B, there was something for everyone. Standout acts included the soulful Zoë Modiga and the vibrant Zee Nxumalo, both of whom brought energy and joy to the stage. R&B star Elaine also gave a memorable performance, made even more magical by the timing—it took place as the sun was setting, adding a golden glow to her set.
By the end of the day, it was clear that Rosefest had once again lived up to its promise: a celebration “for the girls” where music, sisterhood, and empowerment bloomed together.
