Durban born and raised Shekhinah is now headlining music festivals and topping charts but the Idols alumni’s dream might have seemed impossible after she was abandoned after birth. Shekhinah Talks Being Abandoned At Birth.

The ‘Back To The Beach’ singer says she grew up in her adoptive family but she was closer to her dad, Phil Donnell. “I grew up in the care of my adoptive parents, but I was the closest to my father, Phil Donnell, who was always there for me and believed in my dream to be a singer and is very supportive of me”, she said.

Shekhinah says she’s still very much in touch with her mom who now lives in the US saying she visits her regularly. ‘She will be coming back in December but I will visit her before that.”

The singer says she still doesn’t believe she was received that well by the audience. “I didn’t think we would be received this well. Kyle and I work very well because we know how to bring out the best in each other. I know what to focus on and he knows what to do when we are together, and that usually makes it easier for both of us to work together,”she said.
