Actress Shalate Sekhabi has officially said goodbye to House of Zwide, the hit e.tv drama where she played the beloved role of Shoki for four years.
Sekhabi joined the show in 2021 when it first aired and quickly became a fan favourite. Taking to Instagram to share the news of her departure, she reflected on how much the role had meant to her and how it helped launch her career.
“This is very bittersweet for me because I will miss playing Shoki. I played her for four years, and most of you know me as her,” she wrote.
“It’s because of this character that I’ve become a household name and got my start in this industry.”
Her exit marks the end of an era for both the show and fans who’ve followed her journey from the beginning. In her message, Shalate thanked the team behind House of Zwide for believing in her.
“I want to thank Bomb Productions, e.tv and all the fans for their incredible support over the years,” she said.
“This is truly the end of an era, but all chapters have to end at some point. I look forward to my future endeavours and sharing more work with all of you.”
Shalate Sekhabi was born in Mafikeng in the North West province and is not only a talented actress but also a dedicated student. She graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2023 with a degree in film and television, later completing her Honours degree too.
Her love for acting started early. She began taking classes at the age of eight and shot her first film at just 13 years old. Since then, she has featured in several local TV shows including The River, Rhythm City, A Cup of Sugar, and Klevish.
Even though her time as Shoki has come to an end, her career is far from over. Sekhabi currently stars in the Netflix series Go!, where she plays the role of Nthabi.
Fans can expect to see more of Shalate as she continues to grow and explore new roles in the entertainment world.
