Rapper Priddy Ugly has spoken out after facing backlash over his and his wife Bontle Moloi’s pregnancy announcement. The couple recently shared the news of their second child with a fun video on social media, but not everyone liked how they did it.
During an episode of Podcast and Chill, podcaster MacG criticised the announcement. He didn’t hold back, calling it “cringe” and questioning why the couple felt the need to share such personal moments online.
“That was cringe. What must we do? That was a music video. What must we do, must we clap?” MacG said.
“This is the thing with oversharing. What must we do?” he added.
Even though many fans on social media were happy and sent their congratulations, some people agreed with MacG. A few comments on X and TikTok said the language used in the video wasn’t appropriate, especially with their young daughter Afrika present.
One person commented, “What are we teaching kids? Ain’t nothing funny about this!”
Another said, “Haai, maybe I’m old fashioned, but…”
Others posted reactions like, “Eish, maybe I’m too strict,” and even joked, “Next thing, all parents are receiving a broadcast message from the crèche principal asking them to watch their language around their children at home.”
Another said, “Cool, but that convo is cringe in front of a toddler.”
Some people gave suggestions too. They said the video could have been done differently, like keeping Afrika out of the scene when making jokes or even hiring a comedic writer to help with the script.
Despite all the comments, Priddy Ugly stood strong and defended his family on X. He explained why their announcement should be celebrated, not criticised.
“In a time when global fertility and birth rates are declining, divorce rates are at an all-time high and the black family structure is disadvantaged and under threat. Seeing a young black family grow and blossom, witnessing their relationship stand the test of time — especially in an era where many fail — should bring a little joy to your heart,” he said.
He added, “If you can’t find beauty in that, look inward. God be with you.”
Priddy Ugly made it clear that sharing happy moments like this one is important to him, and that he won’t let negativity spoil the joy he and his family are experiencing.
