Sannah Mcunu Pens Farewell Message Ahead Of Gomora Coming To An End. The award-winning actress who portrayed the character of Zodwa expressed her sadness as the curtains fall for the telenovela.
It has been three years since ‘Gomora’ debuted on South African television screens, its storyline and characters making strides even led to an increase of viewership and it occasionally trending because of what the thespians delivered. However, the telenovela’s discontinuation has caused many fans to express sadness. Sannah also took to her Instagram account to pen an emotional ‘goodbye’ message to the viewers, production team and cast members.
“What never ends is amazing my friends. Let me take this opportunity to thank SERITI Production for blessing us with GOMORA, we were treated very well that’s why our performance was very fast, it’s my first time working in a place where I put all my madness. Crew and cast from GOMORA I say the big is yet to come.. Gates will open, it is painful to lose work, let us stay in hope, the Lord who took us to Gomora will carry us and put us somewhere else. My friends and followers of GOMORA thank you so much for the support you have given us. I love you,” she wrote.
The actress has been on many television productions but her portrayal as Zodwa on ‘Gomora’ set her apart from the rest and saw her earn flowers and recognition. She went on to win a DStv MVCA award in June on 2022, under the ‘favourite actress’ category. Expressing her excitement over her win, Mcunu was quoted as saying: “I have had so much fun acting on Gomora, I am allowed to play and explore the character of Zodwa the way I want to. It has been an absolute pleasure.”
“I grew up in the township, watching the township Zodwas, so I don’t need to dig deep or go far to find her. I think South Africans relate to Zodwa because every township has its own Zodwa, so for them it’s close to home,” she concluded.
Gomora’s last episode is set to air for the last time on October 20. As fans bitterly await its discontinuation, Leanne Khumalo, Gomora’s producer said that she was more than confident that the telenovela’s captivating storyline will forever be etched in people’s memories.
