The race for South African music’s most prestigious accolades has officially begun as the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) announced the nominees for the 30th edition of the Motsepe Foundation Record of the Year (ROTY) and RiSA Audio Visual (RAV) Music Video of the Year awards. With a star-studded lineup and fierce competition, this year’s awards promise to be one for the history books.

The nominations, which cover singles released between April 15, 2023, and April 14, 2024, feature some of the biggest names in South African music. Leading the pack are chart-topping artists Tyla, Inkabi Zezwe and Tyler ICU, are all  vying for the coveted Record of the Year award. These artists, along with 17 others, make up the list of 20 songs that fans across the country can now vote for, determining who will take home the trophy.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Tyler ICU and Tyla are also in the running for the RiSA Audio Visual Music Video of the Year award, setting the stage for a thrilling head-to-head showdown. Adding to the intensity, Lowsheen has managed to snag two nominations in the Music Video of the Year category, showcasing the creative prowess and visual storytelling that have captivated audiences.

As the countdown to the #SAMA30 ceremony begins, fans are eagerly casting their votes, supporting their favourite artists and songs. The SAMAs have always been a celebration of South Africa’s diverse musical talent, and this year is no exception. With a lineup that reflects the vibrant and evolving music scene, the 30th edition of the SAMAs is set to honour the best of the best.
