Actress Rorisang Mohapi is set to return to television screens in a brand-new telenovela titled Kwa Baba. The new drama will officially premiere on Mzansi Magic DStv Channel 161 this June and promises to bring viewers an emotional story filled with culture, tradition, love and family struggles.
Kwa Baba will start airing from Monday 01 June at 19:30 and is already creating excitement among local television fans. The telenovela is described as a powerful and heartfelt exploration of love, its beauty and its burdens. The story focuses on tradition, passion and the difficult choices people are sometimes forced to make for the sake of family.
At the centre of the story is Zwelakhe Mkhize, played by Vuyo Biyela, who is known for his roles in Sibongile & The Dlaminis and The River. Zwelakhe is a young businessman who is focused on success and preparing for marriage with the woman he loves.
Rorisang Mohapi-Grootboom, known for her role in Gqeberha: The Empire and Kwa-Tsholo, stars as Bahumi Motaung, the woman Zwelakhe wants to spend his life with. However, their relationship faces serious challenges when Zwelakhe discovers that before moving forward with his future, he must first deal with an old traditional obligation connected to his late father’s unpaid debt.
For Zwelakhe, love alone may not be enough. He is forced to face painful truths that could either rebuild or completely destroy his family. The story asks an emotional question: how much can one sacrifice for the people they love?
The telenovela also introduces viewers to MaMbokazi, played by Hlengiwe Lushaba-Madlala, who plays Zwelakhe’s mother. She is described as a respected and faith-led matriarch carrying a complicated past while trying to protect her family and reputation.
Another important family in the story is the Motaung family, who appear loving and stable but are also hiding secrets of their own. Solomon Motaung, played by Mpho J Molepo, leads the household alongside his wife Dikeledi, played by Helen Lebepe. Dikeledi is a fiercely protective mother shaped by heartbreak from the past.
The cast also includes Lindani Nkosi as Dumisani, Nkanyiso Mzimela as Musa, Kwanele Mthethwa as Khethiwe, Sparky Xulu as Mhlaba, and Phumzile Mlangeni as Zandile.
With themes of family pressure, hidden truths, love and sacrifice, Kwa Baba looks ready to become one of the most talked-about telenovelas on South African television this year.
