Robbie Malinga Jnr, the son of the late legendary singer and producer Robbie Malinga, is ready to let fans see the real him on Showmax’s newest reality TV show, “Born into Fame.” The show offers an intimate look into the lives of children growing up with famous parents, and Robbie promises viewers an unfiltered glimpse into his world.
In a candid interview with Times LIVE, Robbie shared his thoughts on the experience. “I was open during filming — this is the most open I have been in my life. There was no acting, no putting on a show. You are going to see me as I am. I was raw — in some instances there were emotional times and viewers will see it,” he said.
The show also highlights the dynamics within Robbie’s family. “We have shot some scenes with my family where you will see our family dynamics. I shot with my dad’s dad, my uncle, my mom and sister, so people are going to see us as we are,” he added, giving a sneak peek into the familial bonds that have shaped him.
Addressing the criticism of being labeled a “nepo baby,” Robbie emphasised that his position is both a privilege and a responsibility. “I would describe being born into fame as a privilege because it is not a norm, it is a blessing and can help you spread light and reach your full potential. It is a blessing I did not choose for myself. God blessed me with this, but I still have to show up and do my own thing. I still put in the work — you can’t hide behind your parents’ success,” he explained.
Robbie acknowledged the advantages that come with his father’s legacy, noting that connections made by his father have helped him navigate his own path. “My father was famous and all that has been great. I am able to leverage from his success. Let’s say I need to do something — there are contacts he may have made that I can use, so it is easier for me to connect with people because they know him.”
Despite the privileges, Robbie stays true to himself and his father’s influence. “I have always been that type of person, that is my type of personality. I love the finer things in life and I love to experience them while I am still breathing and also, my dad was that type of person. He loved dope things and things that were nice, so growing up I used to see that from him and it was normal in our household. On the other hand, my mom is a reserved lady, she is not flashy at all,” he shared.
“Born into Fame” promises to be an intriguing exploration of the realities behind the glitz and glamour, and Robbie Malinga Jnr is set to be a standout presence, offering fans a deeper understanding of the man behind the name.
