17-year-old singer Aphiwe Myongwane is ready to take her music career to the next level, and she has a special wish: to open for Chris Brown during his South African tour this December. Speaking with Daily Sun, the multi-award-winning artist from Inanda, Durban, shared her excitement and dreams for the future.

“My birthday is on the 16th of December, and that’s the day I wish and pray they will call me to come and open for him. That will be the best gift I’ve ever received in my entire life,” Aphiwe said, referring to the American superstar’s two-night performance at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on December 14 and 15.

Aphiwe is no stranger to the spotlight. She gained international recognition with her viral singing videos and her collaboration with Chris Brown on the track Shooter from his 2023 album 11:11. Her music, including her hit song Ngiyabonga, has captured hearts worldwide.

Although her career is flourishing, Aphiwe has always placed importance on education. Just finishing her final exams, she’s now free to focus fully on her music. “Finishing school is very important because it opens doors,” she said. “There were times when I couldn’t attend performances because I had school commitments. Now that I’m done with my final exams, I can focus on what I love.”

She also has a message for young people balancing education with their passions: “Stay in school, even if good things are already happening in your life. Be patient and finish school because we need education in life. You can even multitask. I managed to focus on my music while being at school, and I’m confident I’ll pass.”

With her matric exams behind her, Aphiwe is already planning for the future. She’s excited to release an EP in March 2025, promising even more soulful tracks for her growing fan base.
