Rick Ross, the international hip-hop star whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, arrived in Cape Town on Monday and has been sharing his exciting journey with his followers on social media. The 48-year-old rapper is currently in the city to work on some exciting projects, including shooting a music video and commercial.
On Wednesday, Rick Ross filmed the music video for Dangerous II alongside South African musician Usimamane, marking another high-profile collaboration between international and local talent. In an interview with TshisaLIVE, Sikhulile Nzuza, culture and operations lead at Gamma Strategic Partnerships, spoke about the significance of the collaboration. “Gamma is proud to continue to invest in proudly South African artists to collaborate with our international partners such as Rick Ross to ensure our local artists have a global presence,” said Nzuza.
Rick Ross also took to his Instagram story to give a
shout-out to amapiano DJ Melzi, also known as Tumelo Mphai, one of the South African artists he’s close to after they met in London in 2022. “Shout-out to DJ Melzi,” Ross said, showing appreciation for the rising star.
DJ Melzi expressed his gratitude for the recognition, calling it a refreshing experience. “The first time I met the biggest boss was in London in 2022. One of the most memorable days of my life, it feels as if it was yesterday. I thank Belaire for showing me love and giving me a chance! Luc Belaire will forever be family,” said Melzi.
“It feels great to get recognition from a legend like Rick Ross — almost like a dream,” he continued. “Even more exciting to know that there are a lot of things coming to reality soon. I can’t disclose much yet, but it feels unreal and even more so like a step in the right direction.”
