The highly anticipated Married at First Sight reunion is almost here, and fans cannot wait to see how all the drama will unfold. For the second season, actress, musician, and broadcaster Relebogile Mabotja will host a special two-hour episode that is packed with emotion, shocking revelations, and plenty of behind-the-scenes tea. The much-talked-about reunion is set to air on Sunday, 5 October 2025 at 17:00 PM and it promises to deliver a rollercoaster of moments that will keep Mzansi glued to their screens.
In an exclusive conversation with Showmax, Mabotja opened up about how she prepared for the big night, the challenges of hosting, and what viewers can expect. “I love the format and the concept of social experiments,” she said. “I also happen to love the group who have kept Mzansi glued to their screens for weeks on end.”
When it came to preparing, Mabotja said she allowed herself to get lost in the characters and storylines without being influenced by social media at first. “I then squizzed through social media to get a sense of what many wanted to know and understand,” she explained. She also worked closely with the production team to gather as much background information as possible, while staying curious and open-minded.
Mabotja revealed that she is especially interested in diving into sensitive topics, particularly those surrounding human behavior that is often judged negatively. “I am super-fascinated with it all. I am always keen to dive into topics that centre around behaviour automatically labelled as bad. I want to understand what informs it and who the person is behind it,” she said. Fans can look forward to plenty of shocking revelations, moments of clarity, and serious entertainment.
Her approach to hosting the reunion is to remain curious. “The mindset when walking into any conversation is to remain curious. What more could there be? What is the person not saying? How can I make the space safe enough for an open conversation, no matter how hard it is?” she said. She confirmed that many of the questions and comments trending on social media will definitely make it into the reunion. “I have seen the many comments and questions and best believe I ask them,” she added.
Although Mabotja enjoys exploring human behavior, she laughed off the idea of ever taking part in the experiment herself. “Definitely not! Haha. I am way too much of an overthinker and am way too private to allow strangers into my vulnerability like that. I have the utmost respect for all the participants’ courage,” she said.
She believes the reunion is not only entertaining but also filled with lessons that viewers can apply to their own lives. “The reunion has lessons for us all, even outside intimate partner relationships. It’s great that we are joined by two experts who speak about what informed their decision on coupling the participants,” Mabotja explained.
When asked why some couples connected while others fell apart, Mabotja said, “Relationships are unpredictable, as are human beings. Some situations bring out different parts in us. Even when people are compatible, timing is also a factor. The situation is so unique and realistically not all will thrive in it.”
Her hope is that viewers will leave the reunion feeling some sense of resolution, with a deeper understanding of the cast members, and maybe even new perspectives on their own relationships. “I hope they walk away feeling resolution on some things and maybe seeing a different side to each participant. Maybe even walk with some introspection on themselves in their own relationships. Of course, they must walk away ready for a new season!” she said.
Mabotja admitted she was nervous to host her first reunion. “I was extremely nervous hosting the reunion, understanding there will never be enough time to get through everything, not everyone will be pleased and it being my first reunion,” she said. However, she also shared that hosting was an experience she embraced fully. “Having said that, releasing my music independently has been beyond challenging because it’s all on me. The reunion has a massive team in the form of the production company and channel, and with Still Me, it really rests all on me and my little team. That was and is scary and challenging. But I am here for it all,” Mabotja added.
